Color Combos

For the longest time I would not, under any circumstances mix certain colors. Orange and black (too Halloween-ish), red and yellow (too Ronald McDonald-ish), even yellow and blue (too University of Michigan-ish), and last but not least red and green (too Christmas-y). But with the new hues of these colors out, or maybe they aren't new at all, I'm just now noticing them more, I'm loving mixing and matching. Here in particular with burgundy and army green, plus, the skulls on my dress and studs on my boots add a bit of edge so it doesn't seem so "lets put on our Christmas sweaters and take family photos."

Denim on Denim, Yes Please

Jeans are one of the most timeless and versatile textiles in the fashion world. And in recent years it's transformed itself. Now you can find it in just about anything you're looking for, from colored and printed, to high-waisted and skinny leg. Some people call it a denim tuxedo, but when I wear this combination I feel a bit hipster and effortlessly cool. Maybe I'm neither of those, but I like the way I feel when I put this combination on. I love that you can dress it up with heels and a sparkly necklace (like I did for work here) or down with a pair of flip flops (sorry East Coasters we are indeed wearing flip flops here in sunny San Diego). So pull your jeans out and rock them this spring! I know this isn't the only time you'll see me in a denim on denim combo!

I'm in Love, I'm in Love and I Don't Care Who Knows It!

Quoting one of my all-time favorite movies Elf was only appropriate to start a post about my latest style obsession...Zara. Our love story started about a year ago when a Zara opened up in my local San Diego mall. To say it was love at first sight is an understatement! Upon stepping into the store I was met with fresh features like leather collars, statement necklaces, perfectly fitting denim, and fresh prints and color combinations. I've since gradually begun transforming my wardrobe to what I consider to be a more sleek and sophisticated palette, of course with a boho and eclectic touch to showcase my style. What I really love about Zara is they are affordable with products ranging from $20 to upwards of a couple hundred. Plus, they just opened an online store so if you don't have a Zara near you have no fear, the internet is near!

So today's outfit is devoted to my love, Zara. Enjoy!

Mixing Patterns

Lately I've been a big fan of mixing patterns. This outfit is one of my favorites! Pairing a generally masculine plaid shirt and oversized sweater with floral print jeans balance each other out. My words of wisdom: don't be afraid of it! It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but you're the only one who has to like it, after all, that's what's so great about fashion!

And So It Begins

I'm beyond excited as I sit here typing my first post! Starting the blog has been something I've wanted to do for awhile, as my love for clothes and style has really amplified over the years. I'll be sharing outfit photos, how I put things together (things always sound good in your head, right?), as well as my thoughts on style.

Let me start by saying I am not the type of fashionista who knows the 'it' designers or all the latest runway trends. I have been, and will always be the smart shopper who would rather spend lots of money on many items of clothing rather than one. And I keep items of clothing for years, in fact some of my favorite items have been in my closet for a good five years. My latest obsession is Zara (more to come on my love of this store!) as it lets me combine all my style tastes at once. From boho and collars (a recent fixation), to high waisted options and leather. I've got so many great things to share!!
